Rich in the essence of Dunhuang, this work embodies the classic spirit of traditional Chinese culture. 具有浓郁的敦煌味道,展现中国传统文化的经典气质 Legend has it that Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty greatly appreciated one of his ministers, Dongfang Shuo, because he was both kind-hearted and humorous. One winter, after several snowfalls, Dongfang Shuo went to the imperial garden to pick plum blossoms. There he met a palace maid who was weeping bitterly. Her name was Yuanxiao. She was heartbroken because she missed her family - whom she had not seen for a very long time - but was not allowed to leave the palace to visit them. Dongfang Shuo came up with a plan. He disguised himself as a fortune teller and set up a stall on the main street of the capital. To everyone who came to draw a fortune slip, he gave the same ominous prediction: On the 16th day of the first lunar month, you will be consumed by fire. He then told them that on the 13th day of the lunar month, they should seek help from a young woman dressed in red who rides a black donkey. Later, that young woman appeared and delivered a letter to Emperor Wu. After reading the letter, the emperor was shocked. He quickly summoned Dongfang Shuo to ask for his advice. When the night of the 15th day of the first lunar month arrived, the capital was decorated with colorful lanterns and bright lights. The entire city poured into the streets to see the lantern display. The maid Yuanxiao also came, carrying a large lantern she had made herself. Her younger sister, her parents - they were all there! They immediately spotted the lantern with the name Yuanxiao written on it. Finally, Yuanxiao was reunited with her family. That night, the city remained safe and sound. Emperor Wu then issued an order: from then on, every year on the 15th day of the first lunar month, people should make sweet glutinous rice dumplings. Because Yuanxiao made the best dumplings, people began calling them yuanxiao, and the day itself became known as the Yuanxiao Festival (Lantern Festival).
