The Holy Land in the times of the crusader states has never known peace for long, and so draws to it many seeking fortune through their prowess with the blade. One such man is Casca Rufio Longinus, who comes looking for work and coin.
He finds work in the form of a Jewish merchant's desperate need for his kidnapped daughter to be rescued and will pay good coin upon her safe return along with a chest of gold that was taken at the same time, and has gathered a motley group of adventurers and sell-swords together to attempt the rescue mission.
Casca is not thrilled with his companions, most of whom seem unable to meld together as a team and are as likely to fight each other as those who have the merchant's daughter. As the mission progresses Casca's concerns grow and soon the awful fact comes clear to him that there is one amongst them who is prepared to kill his comrades in arms for some unknown reason.
The Eternal Mercenary will have to use his centuries of experience to uncover the truth and achieve his mission, slim though this may seem to him.
