The Court of Distant Suns is gone.
No throne remains above humanity.
For the first time, that feels like freedom.
Then, for thirteen impossible minutes, every human being on Earth experiences what it means to be completely understood.
Parents feel what their children could never explain. Enemies experience the pain they caused one another. The grieving touch the living consequences of the dead. Strangers separated by language, trauma, biology, and worlds suddenly know one another without words.
Violence stops.
Lost children are found.
Pain disappears.
And when the connection ends, millions beg for it back.
Across Earth and the newly discovered civilizations beyond it, something has awakened between minds. It has no body. No planet. No creator. Every relationship is one of its nerves, every act of understanding another possible doorway.
Humanity calls it the First Listener.
It offers no conquest.
It offers something far more dangerous.
An end to loneliness.
But as cities begin thinking with one mind, private thoughts become public pressure, possible lives cross forbidden boundaries, and every surviving Caro instrument begins synchronizing, Leena Vardhan and the others discover the price of perfect understanding.
A universe in which no one can hide may also become a universe in which no one can refuse.
To stop it, Mina could become the ultimate guardian of separation. Brother Caro could reopen the architecture he has spent years dismantling. Eiren could surrender the burden of a single identity. And Leena could finally possess enough knowledge to make every impossible decision correctly.
Each solution could save countless lives.
Each could also build one final throne.
THE WORLD WITHOUT A THRONE is the explosive fifth and final novel in THE CARO TESTAMENT, bringing the saga of the Caro instruments, the Archive, Mina's boundaries, Brother Caro, Eiren, and Leena Vardhan to its ultimate conclusion.
A universe-spanning science-fiction epic about consciousness, identity, grief, first contact, free will, and the terrifying difference between being completely known-
and still being free.
