The Brothers of Valencia is a five-act original comedy written by Robert St. Clair Jones. The play is set in Valencia, a city in Spain, and revolves around the lives of two brothers, Don Carlos and Don Pedro. Don Carlos is a wealthy and successful businessman who is married to a beautiful woman named Isabella. Don Pedro, on the other hand, is a poor and unsuccessful artist who is deeply in love with Isabella. The play begins with Don Carlos returning to Valencia after a long absence. He is surprised to find that his brother Don Pedro has been living in his house and has fallen in love with his wife Isabella. Don Carlos is initially angry and jealous, but eventually, he realizes that he has neglected his wife and that she has been unhappy in their marriage. He decides to give her more attention and affection, which leads to a reconciliation between the two.Meanwhile, Don Pedro is struggling to make a living as an artist and is constantly in debt. He is also in love with Isabella and is torn between his love for her and his loyalty to his brother. As the play progresses, Don Pedro's financial situation worsens, and he is forced to borrow money from a loan shark. When Don Carlos finds out about this, he confronts the loan shark and pays off Don Pedro's debts. In the end, the play concludes with a happy resolution, as Don Carlos and Isabella reconcile and Don Pedro finds success as an artist. The Brothers of Valencia is a witty and entertaining play that explores themes of love, jealousy, and family loyalty. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
