Drawing on Bernard Stiegler's concept of the pharmakon, it demonstrates that each technological advance is both remedy and poison, emancipation and alienation. Writing extends memory across generations while attenuating our interior mnemonic capacity; AI expands cognitive horizons while risking the atrophy of critical thought; affective computing offers companionship while eroding the boundary between genuine and simulated feeling.The book confronts the ultimate question of our age: in an era of total exteriorization, what remains that cannot be outsourced?
