This story is about Jubal Tull. Like many heroes, Jubal started off in life cheated out of just about everything worth having, only to overcome the odds to become one of the most effective bounty hunters of his time. It was said that he could ride longer and farther without food, water, or sleep than anyone, so if he was after you, and you took the normal rest stops at night, you were as good as caught.
Life for everyone is hard. The tendency to feel self-pity has been the end of a lot of men and women who should have otherwise prospered and thrived. I would even venture to say that this is even true for those who started off with a good head start.
I feel safe in saying that Jubal Tull got a worse deal than most, but he never, ever, quit, or felt sorry for himself right up to the day that he died at the ripe old age of 95, in 1925. His sweetheart buried him in a grove of trees in the place he called paraiso, close to hacienda Del Vado. It was only a few months later that she followed him.
They are buried next to each other. The graves are still there if you know where to look. It's covered with a capstone bas relief of Jubal and Carmen, holding hands forever. A few feet away, you will find four graves with simple headstones. Carved on each headstone from left to right are the names Stick, Johnny, Dash, and Molly. You will understand what they mean to Jubal once you read his story.
