The Bores is a play written by the French playwright Moliere, whose real name was Jean Baptiste Poquelin. The play is a comedy that centers around the character of Philinte, a man who is constantly surrounded by people who bore him. From his friend Alceste, who is always complaining about society and its conventions, to his love interest Celimene, who is constantly gossiping and causing drama, Philinte finds himself constantly exasperated by the people around him.As the play progresses, Philinte becomes increasingly frustrated with the bores in his life and begins to seek out ways to avoid them. He tries to distance himself from Alceste and Celimene, but finds that they are both too intertwined in his life to completely escape.Ultimately, The Bores is a satirical commentary on the social conventions of 17th century France, and the ways in which people are often trapped by the expectations and demands of society.
