Kate Douglas Wiggin (1856-1923), the beloved author of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, first published The Birds' Christmas Carol in 1888, while pioneering free kindergartens in San Francisco. The Romance of a Christmas Card followed in 1916, late in her writing life. Together they hold everything her readers loved her for - New England warmth, gentle humour, and tenderness toward children and the poor.
