When her owner's chartered yacht is overtaken by a hurricane, the fox washes ashore, and is found by a timid young courier named Rilke. With no possessions beyond his kindness and a scruffy book of poems, Rilke vows to help Fen make the long journey home.
Rilke wants to see the technological utopia the fox has described and leave the flooded Atlantic coast far behind. But their path north will take them through a treacherous mountain range, for which both are unprepared.
In this futuristic fable where Brave New World and Aesop converge, nothing is what it seems as Rilke and Fen grapple with their hidden pasts and wait for winter's end.
