It was the end of the day. Jeremy and Malcolm sat companionably together at the huge conference table. Jeremy was ninety days from stepping down as mayor after serving six years. He could run again but could only serve two more years. He chose to allow someone else that opportunity.
What's next? Malcolm asked.
I don't have any plans. My wife told me I could be her sugar man and Amy said, she would slide me a few dollars if needed, so I'm good. Not that being mayor paid any of my bills.
Malcolm had to chuckle because he knew that to be true. He served four years, years earlier.
What I really want, need really is to spend time with my wife. Early mornings and middays. I'm planning to write another book or two but I need that.
There's not much better...take the time especially since you've got two women with serious money offering to lace your pockets. Malcolm said.
You're right. The best part is my wife wants me with her, she said until I get on her nerves.
Work hard on that one because being kept comes with rules. When y'all see me showing up in early meetings I've gotten on the Queen's nerves. It's a balancing act because she needs you gone for a while but if she has to call to ask what time you're returning that's not good either but my money is on you figuring it out.
I'm in it to win it.
Malcolm held out his fist for Jeremy to bump.
