We see Anderson, elected to Congress as a representative from Rhode Island, appointed US senator to a vacant position and then nominated for vice president. Sub-themes include two assassination attempts and the abduction of a young female journalist in Mexico who was tracking a drug ring with contacts high in the U.S. government that threaten to derail Anderson's election. Anderson struggles with his growing Christian faith as it conflicts with his nominal Christian lifestyle, until he can commit fully to the Lord. Daugherty must settle whether she will remain committed to Anderson and possibly become the nation's second lady or seek re-election to her congressional seat from Nevada. She also struggles with spiritual growth. Key secondary characters play pivotal roles in both the main theme and sub-themes. Some characters are new to this book, while others are familiar to readers of the previous book. Both main characters work through their need for spiritual rebirth and health. The novel appeals to readers of Christian romance, political thrillers, and anyone who has had to recover sanity when circumstances have knocked them off course.
