Ben-Hur: Or The Days Of The Messiah is a historical fiction novel written by American author, Lew Wallace, and published in 1884. The story is set in the Roman Empire during the time of Jesus Christ and follows the life of Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish prince who is wrongly accused of attempting to assassinate a Roman governor and is subsequently sentenced to slavery. During his enslavement, Ben-Hur meets a wealthy merchant named Sheik Ilderim who takes him under his wing and trains him to become a chariot racer. Ben-Hur's natural talent and determination lead him to compete in the famous chariot race at the Circus Maximus in Rome. Throughout the novel, Ben-Hur seeks revenge against his childhood friend, Messala, who betrayed him and falsely accused him of the crime that led to his enslavement. However, he also becomes a follower of Jesus Christ and learns the importance of forgiveness and redemption. The novel is known for its vivid descriptions of ancient Rome and its portrayal of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. It has been adapted into several stage productions, films, and television series, including the 1959 film of the same name starring Charlton Heston. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
