One of two historical novels Dickens wrote (the other being the better known 'A Tale of Two Cities'), 'Barnaby Rudge' is set during the Gordon Riots of 1780. It is one of Dickens' most atmospheric stories, and is said to have inspired 'The Raven' by Edgar Allan Poe.
