It was graduation day at the academy. He stood proudly on stage with a hundred new graduates. From here, many would be asked to join off-world missions to exotic planetary systems, others to research the findings brought back, others to develop advanced technologies. Having been ranked last in the class, he was not looking forward to whatever assignment they may give him. He did fairly well in quantum electrodynamics, nano-biotechnology, and hyper-dimensional wave dynamics. In short, a geek, But not a particularly good one by Ormnax standards.Then came his turn. He was given an old ship to travel to a small distant planet called Earth. The trip would take one month at hyper drive speeds, in Earth time. He would be traveling alone. Clearly this was a great honor, but why this planet? It wasn't even mentioned at the Academy. He barely passed the courses needed to pilot a starship let alone first contact with a primitive species.
