What do modern day criminal offenses have to do with a Texas' town's worst day almost 100 years ago? Why is a Texas Ranger being asked to investigate cases outside of the state? And in this current climate, when it is difficult to be law enforcement and difficult to be black, how in the world do you juggle both. These questions and the state of democracy in general are subjects grappled with in this thrilling new novel. J., Justus Marshall Young, a captain with the Texas Rangers is single handedly working a case that will haunt him and possibly destroy the almost 200 year old agency he represents. If not for citizens at risk, this might be a case best left unsolved. As a black law enforcement officer, he must come to terms with the legacy of America's racial past and the civil unrest that remains from wounds never healed. All while facing mounting political and economic pressures to get things done. It may well prove to be too much for one man and one case.
