Die Edition der drei milesischen Philosophen des sechsten Jahrhunderts v. Chr., Thales, Anaximander und Anaximenes ist - entsprechend der grundlegenden Zielsetzung der Neuedition der vorsokratischen Philosophen, wesentlich die Überlieferungswege und Überlieferungsintentionen der jeweiligen Zeugnisse zu dokumentieren - chronologisch (von Platon und Aristoteles bis Albertus Magnus) angeordnet. Verzichtet wird daher sowohl auf eine - im Fall der Milesier ohnehin mü ige - Unterscheidung in direkte und indirekte Überlieferung oder auf ein Lemma 'Imitationen' bzw. 'Fälschungen'.
Die griechischen, lateinischen, syrischen, arabischen und hebräischen Textzeugnisse werden mit deutscher Übersetzung abgedruckt. Sie sind mit erläuternden Anmerkungen, gegebenenfalls einem kritischen Apparat und vor allem einem Similienapparat versehen, der die jeweiligen Traditionsstränge nachzuvollziehen hilft. Insgesamt etwa 600 Zeugnisse für Thales (Bd. 1) und etwa jeweils 250 für die beiden anderen Milesier (Bd. 2) werden auf diese Weise erschlossen. Umfangreiche Indices erleichtern die Benutzung beider Bände.
