A reclusive, obscenely rich Kentucky lottery winner and grieving mother tricks Marisa Adair into investigating a twenty-year-old cold case.

During a serial arsonist's reign of terror, Mayla Kenton died in an inferno, leaving her mother to grieve-and to burn with vengeance. Armed with newfound wealth and a long-standing passion for justice, Mrs. Kenton is determined to find her daughter's killer and finally make them pay.

As Marisa reluctantly digs into Mayla's tragic death, she's also in hot pursuit of her own personal vendetta. Alisa, her childhood bully, targets vulnerable online victims while hiding behind her screen-including Marisa's tormented brother. Alisa also holds the key to unlocking chilling decades-old secrets that stretch from their shared past to the sinister present.

The mysteries surrounding Mayla's death and Alisa's twisted past converge. They collide, leaving Alisa brutally murdered and Marisa the prime suspect. Her arrest for a crime she didn't commit threatens to destroy the life she worked to rebuild. Alex, her childhood friend and infuriating boss, rushes to clear her name. He's a stodgy numbers cruncher with zero tolerance for chaos-and Marisa's brash tendency to hurl herself headfirst into danger. While he looks-looks-looks before he leaps, Marisa has already crash-landed squarely in the deadly chaos. As secrets from the past and present reach a flashpoint, their tempers clash, and their personal and professional boundaries crumble to ashes. Heated arguments ignite...and explode into a burning attraction that threatens to consume them both.

Trapped between passion and peril, Marisa risks losing not only her freedom but also the fragile chance at love she never thought she'd want-or need. Can she and Alex navigate their sizzling connection and the deadly truths they uncover? Or will everything go up in smoke?
