The Apology is a book written by Tertullian, a Christian apologist and theologian who lived in the Roman Empire during the second century AD. The book is a defense of Christianity against the accusations and persecution it faced in the Roman Empire. Tertullian argues that Christians are not atheists, as they worship one God, and that their beliefs are not immoral, as they promote love and compassion. He also defends the Christian practice of refusing to participate in pagan rituals and sacrifices, and refutes accusations of cannibalism and incest. The Apology is an important work in the history of Christian apologetics and provides insight into the early Christian church's interactions with the Roman Empire.I am more afraid of them than of Anytus and his associates, who are dangerous, too, in their own way. But far more dangerous are these, who began when you were children, and took possession of your minds with their falsehoods, telling of one Socrates, a wise man, who speculated about the heaven above, and searched into the earth beneath, and made the worse appear the better cause. These are the accusers whom I dread. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
