The Anatomy of Sports Fans: Reflections on Fans and Fanatics by Pierre D. Bognon examines fan enthusiasm in modern sports and its relationship to the phenomenon of fanaticism. The word fan is derived from fanatic, so understanding what constitutes being a fan opens the door to understanding fanatics in all walks of life. Sport fans are not shy in acknowledging their excesses; they readily admit that they cannot shed or control their fan nature. Author Bognon presents the history, psychology, and sociology of sport fandom in a concise and cogent style and establishes a clear connection between the fan experience and fanaticism in general. The Anatomy of Sports Fans: Reflections on Fans and Fanatics was written for fans who want to understand their own passion, and for those who want to understand what motivates those crazy spectators. Written in plain English, Pierre D. Bognon offers invaluable insight to any serious sports fan, or fretful sports widow.
