Stephan Marsworth, a professor in the English department at the University of Northern New Mexico, taught Freshman English as well as his other classes. But one morning he did not turn up for class. He had a good reason-he was dead. Professor Candrew Nor had become a friend of his, since University Publishing was handling manuscripts for both of them. Candrew had stumbled on Stephan's body, and was sure he died of a heart attack. But the police later established it was in fact murder. While Candrew, and his close friend Renata from Archaeology, are helping Stephan's separated wife, after she arrived from California, there is a second faculty death. This one, in the Sculpture department, appears to be a suicide. Could these two university deaths have been merely coincidental? Candrew is determined to know if they are related. He discovers that both professors were working with the same, out-of-town A.I. expert to provide creative ideas. And he finds that this expert is a close relative of the English department's Chairperson.
