The topic of sustainable mobility and the potential of cycling as an active mode of regular transport has been gaining increasing interest. This has provided an opportunity for research into active cycling in students' mobility habits for travelling from home to school. In the first phase, the aim of this study was to describe the mobility options of students at a public secondary school in their daily journeys to school and to understand their receptiveness to active transport for this journey. This was a descriptive study and the sample consisted of 145 students in years 10 to 12 of a public secondary school, aged between 15 and 20 (mean = 16.4 years; SD = 1.16), of whom 79 were male and 66 were female. The instrument used was adapted from Pereira et al (2012) and applied in order to understand the students' modes of transport to school, their expectations regarding the use of bicycles as an active transport option, and their actual mobility needs on this daily journey.
