Charlie Hudson was never supposed to exist. At least, that's what the ancient entities hunting him through time and space keep telling him.
For eight years, Charlie did everything right. He kept his head down. He didn't ask questions. He learned, the hard way, that curiosity gets you fired - from twelve jobs, in eight years, for the crime of noticing things he wasn't supposed to notice. Wrong meeting. Wrong hallway. Wrong Uber ride in D.C. He'd developed a quiet, private theory about himself: that reality was somehow confused about where he belonged.
He was about to find out how right he was.
It starts with a job that makes no sense - investigate a classified dig site in Antarctica, check for anomalies, report back. Easy, except nothing in Charlie's life is ever easy. Within hours, his team stumbles onto a secret buried for millennia: an impossible city, a war erased from the historical record, and something that should have stayed forgotten.
Agartha. A lost civilization. Gone - not destroyed, removed, like someone reached back and edited the past.
Now reality itself is coming apart at the seams. The sky is behaving strangely. History keeps rearranging itself when no one's looking. And the things responsible? They know Charlie's name.
Enter Steve: a 120-year-old alien liaison with a permanent Tang in hand, an unshakable calm, and an extremely relaxed relationship with the truth. He hands Charlie a folder titled Beginner's Guide to Classified Shenanigans and welcomes him to a job Charlie never applied for and can't quit - investigating the anomalies the world's governments have spent decades quietly covering up.
Because here's the twist nobody expects: the conspiracies are real. All of them. Roswell. Area 51. The moon landing. JFK. But they're not sinister masterplans - they're bureaucratic accidents, cover stories stacked on cover stories, deployed by people who broke something they didn't understand and then panicked. Somewhere underneath all the cover-ups is the truth about a war that shouldn't have happened, a civilization that vanished, and a reason Charlie keeps ending up exactly where the universe least wants him.
With a team that didn't ask for any of this either - a demolitions expert who solves problems by making them louder, a physicist whose theories keep breaking quantum mechanics in real time, and an intelligence officer who shoots first and files the paperwork never - Charlie has to piece together the truth before the past, present, and future collapse into each other for good.
Because this was never just about stopping a war that history forgot.
It's about why Charlie Hudson is here at all.
And the answer is worse than anything the conspiracy theorists ever guessed.
The Accidental Conspiracy is Book 1 of The Charlie Hudson Files, a comic science fiction series for readers who like their ancient cosmic mysteries served with a side of sarcasm, a fully-stocked bar of alien cocktails, and a hero who is extremely underqualified for the apocalypse he's just been handed.
If you like your sci-fi funny, your conspiracies half-true, and your heroes dragged kicking and screaming toward destinies they never wanted - welcome to the file. Charlie didn't choose this. Nobody chose this. But here we all are.
