A Busy Honeymoon is a spirited one-act farce by Larry E. Johnson that captures the frantic energy and comedic misunderstandings characteristic of early 20th-century American theater. The work centers on the chaotic events surrounding a newly married couple whose expectations for a romantic and peaceful getaway are quickly upended by a series of unexpected interruptions and humorous complications.
Written during the height of the Jazz Age, this play showcases Johnson's talent for sharp dialogue and situational comedy. As the title suggests, the honeymoon period is anything but relaxing, as the characters find themselves entangled in a whirlwind of activity that tests their patience and provides constant amusement. The play serves as an excellent example of the farce genre, utilizing rapid pacing and slapstick elements to explore themes of domesticity and the unpredictability of early married life.
Ideal for theater enthusiasts and those interested in the history of American stage comedy, A Busy Honeymoon remains a charming look at the theatrical trends of 1927. Its brief yet impactful structure makes it a quintessential piece of light drama from a significant era of American entertainment.
