Maisy Parker was the only daughter and youngest child of Adaline Parker a tight fisted matriarch who was more interested in her three grown sons who were old enough to continue the bootleg business left to them when their father died. Cleburn County, Arkansas was a dry county prior to the Prohibition. The family barely made a living by transporting liquor and alcoholic beverages across state and country lines. They sold bootleg whisky for some of the still owners in the area of Banner and Concord as well as for a few of the surrounding counties that had gone dry when a number of citizens banned together to keep strong drink out of the county. On the side the trio was known for cattle rustling and other petty crimes. They were harmless enough but didn't seem to have the drive to work the rundown farm that was also part of their heritage. The Parkers stayed just out of reach of the local law and were too small an operation to bother the revenuers. When Maisy reached the ripe age of seventeen her mother suggested that her brothers teach her to drive so that a pair of hands could be freed for the operation. When the 18th Amendment was passed the opportunities would be more lucrative and having a another partner would serve them well. Maisy however, had dreams of a husband and a home and children. She wanted a wedding like the ones she read about in the romance magazines and books. Just as she was about to achieve her dream an unspeakable tragedy occurred that placed them in danger and running from the infamous Capone gang operating out of Hot Springs. Hang on for the ride as the Parkers cut their teeth on the mob crime world, one that they weren't ready to face, but ultimately chose to say No to the Big Man - Al. When the drama died down, one of Maisy's brothers found a solution to her husbandless state as well as providing a wife for Joseph Anderson a widower with seven children. Just how will shy Maisy come to find love despite the unusual circumstance that provided her with a husband? This action packed page-turner will keep you reading as you empathize and come to cheer for Maisy and even her ne'er do well family.
