In 1846, at a Passover gathering inside the frontier fort of Cedar Creek, a sacred silver goblet was raised as a symbol of deliverance, hope, and peace. Known as the Fifth Cup-the cup reserved for Elijah-it had crossed oceans and mountains before reaching the settlement at the meeting of two rivers. But before the blessing could unite the community, an argument erupted between the Levin and Roth families over who truly owned it. By morning, the goblet had vanished, leaving behind accusations, fractured loyalties, and a mystery Cedar Creek would carry for generations.
Nearly two centuries later, the Fifth Cup has finally returned to its place of honor in the town museum. Its engraved roses, stars, and Hebrew letters have made it the centerpiece of Cedar Creek's Heritage Festival and the most treasured artifact under curator Julian Roth's protection. For Julian, the goblet proves that history can survive fire, flood, rivalry, and time. For Miriam Adler-widow, intuitive healer, and keeper of her great-aunt's metaphysical shop-it carries something more: the spiritual weight of a promise still awaiting fulfillment.
Then, on the morning of the festival reenactment, the locked display case is found empty.
Working together, Miriam and Julian follow a trail through security records, forgotten ledgers, family correspondence, hidden attic documents, carved symbols, and stories deliberately softened by those who wrote the official history. What they uncover challenges everything Cedar Creek believes about the goblet. Was it a gift, a loan, a pledge, or something entrusted until a debt could be redeemed? Who benefited when the truth was changed? And what if the greatest theft was not the taking of silver, but the erasure of the people whose sacrifice made its preservation possible?
As the search deepens, Miriam is guided by dreams of five cups and a powerful instruction: redemption must be filled not with ceremony, but with breath, bread, names, restitution, and the courage to say yes. To recover the goblet, she and Julian must persuade a divided town to stop searching only for a villain and begin asking a more difficult question: What wrong are we ready to make right?
The mystery also draws Miriam and Julian beyond the safety of companionship. His scholarship grounds her intuition; her spiritual insight restores his faith in history, community, and himself. Yet admitting what they feel will require the same honesty they demand from Cedar Creek. Love, like redemption, cannot remain protected behind glass. It must become a promise lived in ordinary choices.
Rich with Pacific Northwest atmosphere, small-town intrigue, historical secrets, gentle supernatural mystery, spiritual symbolism, and a tender slow-burning romance, The Fifth Cup welcomes readers back to Cedar Creek, where every cherished tradition carries a hidden story and every mystery asks something of the heart. It is a compelling story about inheritance, belonging, and the danger of mistaking possession for stewardship. It asks whether a community can repair what generations have concealed before truth becomes another artifact locked away-and whether redemption begins when something lost is recovered, or when people finally become worthy of its return.
The goblet has disappeared before.
This time, Cedar Creek must discover not only who took it-but what the Fifth Cup has been waiting for them to give.
