Five Children and It by Edith Nesbit is a beloved children's fantasy about wishes, adventure, and the unexpected trouble that comes when magic answers too literally. When Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane, and their baby brother discover a strange sand-fairy called the Psammead, they are granted one wish each day - but every wish lasts only until sunset, and none of them turns out quite the way the children expect.
What begins as a thrilling discovery soon becomes a series of comic misadventures. Beauty brings unwanted attention, riches create confusion, wings lead to danger, and even the most exciting wishes reveal consequences the children never imagined. With warmth, humor, and a wonderfully practical sense of childhood chaos, Nesbit turns fantasy into a lively story about imagination, responsibility, and learning to be careful what you wish for.
Charming, funny, and full of invention, Five Children and It helped shape the tradition of modern children's fantasy. Its blend of ordinary family life with impossible magic has delighted generations of readers and continues to feel fresh, playful, and wise.
This edition is prepared for clear, comfortable reading while preserving the wit, charm, and imaginative spirit of Nesbit's original story. For young readers, families, collectors, and anyone who loves classic fantasy, Five Children and It remains a magical adventure filled with wonder, mischief, and timeless appeal.
