筆者畢業於交通大學應用數學研究所博士班，高中第一次數學段考只考了十幾分，班排名是最後一名，從成績吊車尾到拿到博士學位，關鍵的轉折是大三時期的一位教授，手把手教我怎麼學數學。回首求學路，有時會希望如果早點開竅便能少走很多的冤枉路，這本書將如何學數學的要領寫進書裡，希望學生們讀完這本書時不只學會了微積分也知道怎麼學數學。
微積分教科書應該具備什麼特色，從大綱是否能看出學習目標而不只是學習內容? 每個艱深的定義與定理之後，如果只有一兩題簡單範例展示說明，當困難的習題做不出來，是因為例題不夠多還是沒有掌握題型變化的緣故? 如果待會就要考試，合上手上的教材時還能夠記住多少內容? 本書有五個重點特色
- 第一個特色是從大綱就能明白每個章節的學習目標，讓微積分初學者翻閱這本書時就能清楚整個脈絡。第二個特色是每個章節在介紹範例之前，先展示說明共有幾種重要題型的變化並且每個題型用幾個步驟能夠完成解題，因此，當練習所有範例之後才能化繁為簡，透過題型的解題步驟掌握所有變化。第三個特色是本書提供約兩千題的範例，每道範例的解題過程皆展示最詳細的解題步驟，因此不會出現跳幾個解題步驟困擾讀者的情況。第四個特色是盡可能白話的介紹每章節的內容，希望讓讀者清楚整個全貌，以便了解哪些章節的內容有連動的關係以及哪些章節特別重要，例如羅比達法則在之後哪些章節的解題過程中還會用到。第五個特色是有別於白話介紹書的內容，每道範例的解題過程需要絕對的嚴謹與精確，筆者於這兩千多道範例的解題過程只用了令、則、因為、所以、導致 做說明。期盼藉由這些特色能將微積分最細緻的內容呈現給讀者。
