笔者毕业于交通大学应用数学研究所博士班，高中第一次数学段考只考了十几分，班排名是最后一名，从成绩吊车尾到拿到博士学位，关键的转折是大三时期的一位教授，手把手教我怎么学数学。回首求学路，有时会希望如果早点开窍便能少走很多的冤枉路，这本书将如何学数学的要领写进书里，希望学生们读完这本书时不只学会了微积分也知道怎么学数学。 微积分教科书应该具备什么特色，从大纲是否能看出学习目标而不只是学习内容? 每个艰深的定义与定理之后，如果只有一两题简单范例展示说明，当困难的习题做不出来，是因为例题不够多还是没有掌握题型变化的缘故? 如果待会就要考试，合上手上的教材时还能够记住多少内容? 本书有五个重点特色
第一个特色是从大纲就能明白每个章节的学习目标，让微积分初学者翻阅这本书时就能清楚整个脉络。第二个特色是每个章节在介绍范例之前，先展示说明共有几种重要题型的变化并且每个题型用几个步骤能够完成解题，因此，当练习所有范例之后才能化繁为简，透过题型的解题步骤掌握所有变化。第三个特色是本书提供约两千题的范例，每道范例的解题过程皆展示最详细的解题步骤，因此不会出现跳几个解题步骤困扰读者的情况。第四个特色是尽可能白话的介绍每章节的内容，希望让读者清楚整个全貌，以便了解哪些章节的内容有连动的关系以及哪些章节特别重要，例如罗比达法则在之后哪些章节的解题过程中还会用到。第五个特色是有别于白话介绍书的内容，每道范例的解题过程需要绝对的严谨与精确，笔者于这两千多道范例的解题过程只用了令、则、因为、所以、导致 做说明。期盼借由这些特色能将微积分最细致的内容呈现给读者。
