The President of South Africa announces a 21 day lockdown because of COVID-19. As the unprecedented lockdown kicks in, city residents find their lives changed in all kinds of ways. 21 Days is a story set in a Johannesburg North suburb called Twinstreams which is not only the confluence of two streams, but also two social classes. One is an immigrant family from Lesotho, with dreams of an elusive better life, squatting on one side of the stream. All Thabo wants to do is provide a good life for his family but the lockdown forces him down a path he never would have contemplated, On the other side of the stream, a lefty middle class family is living the dream despite also starting over after moving from Zimbabwe. The stream's running waters also attract a rather noisy church on Sunday mornings. The middle class family grapples with the need for security, peace and quiet in a country side setting within the city and their social justice leanings. It is also about their maid, with South African ancestry, but born and raised in Zimbabwe, who the middle class family moved with when they come to South Africa. There's also a young student doctor, born in to privilege and teased for it by his mates, who spots the opportunity created by the ban on the sale of alcohol and takes advantage of his status to cruise the suburban streets selling alcohol at a huge profit. How do the residents cope with the new normal and find out how fate draws all of them together with a twist right at the end of the book.
