They tell you to write what you know. So what do I know? I know what it was like growing up in a small town (depending on what your definition of that is) in Ohio during the 1980's. I know what it was like to have crushes, broken hearts, dreams of being a sports star, and falling in love. Oh, I know 80's music for better or worse I never actually progressed much beyond that according to some.
So what I sat out to do and hopefully accomplished was to write a collection centered mostly in that lane. I started with a goal of using titles from 80's songs as the titles for the stories and aside from throwing in a couple good 70's song titles (which to be honest we were still listening to some of the great music from the 60's and 70's anyway) I stuck to that formula for my first ever published work.
With the occasional exception every story could have been part of a John Hughes movie back in the day. It has a lot of 80's high school Gen-X nostalgia. It's filled with painful crushes, first kisses, missed opportunities, and minor moments of personal triumph. The exception involves an invisible man story (but it's still set in the 80's), a time travel story (but we loved time travel in the 80's anyway), a heart warming story about a little boy (timeless right?) and a war story with an unexpected twist.
I honestly believe if you love 80's nostalgia, you'll love these stories.Also in
