A high society party in the Hamptons, fourteen places set for dinner, a guest who goes missing before the party, and a year-long search for the wealthy businessman who has disappeared. It's now 1978 and Nicholas Tracy, an NYPD homicide detective with a passion for film noir, stray animals, and the fellow detectives who refer to him as the Rock Hudson of the division, is on loan to the Long Island precinct that is harboring the cold-case of major proportions. When bones are discovered hidden in the mansion's closet, more questions arise. Do they belong to the missing financier John Roth? That of course, is the $64,000 question.
Ride along with Detective Nick Tracy on four short stories filled with murder and mystery starting with the infamous case of the missing John Roth and the thirteen people at the dinner table that night. Do they know more than they are saying? And what about the butler and the server who stood at the ready that night a year ago?
One or more of them must be a killer. One or more are lying.
Or are they?
Welcome to the investigation, as Detective Nick Tracy attempts to determine who murdered the Fourteenth Man at Dinner.
