Eleven Short Biblical Plays is a compelling anthology of dramatic works selected from a prominent 1928 playwriting competition. This collection brings together diverse theatrical interpretations of scriptural narratives, offering a unique glimpse into the intersection of faith and the performing arts during the early twentieth century. The volume features a variety of one-act plays that explore themes of morality, devotion, and historical struggle, all rooted in the rich traditions of the Bible.
Each play in the collection serves as a testament to the enduring influence of biblical stories on the creative imagination. From intimate character studies to broader thematic explorations, these works were chosen for their literary merit and their ability to bring ancient texts to life for contemporary audiences. This anthology is an invaluable resource for students of religious drama, community theater groups, and readers interested in the evolution of American playwriting. By presenting these winning entries, Eleven Short Biblical Plays preserves a significant moment in the history of religious theater and provides a timeless array of scripts suitable for study and performance.
