For 13-old Jake Jinks and his big sister Miranda, moving from the Washington, D.C. to rural New Mexico was number one on the Top Ten list of worst things ever to happen to them. When a mysterious ink monkey named Pablo appears at their house, they are led to the Zoo of Impossible Animals a top-secret facility dedicated to capturing nearly extinct, probably mythical, and unquestionably dangerous animals called cryptids. In a surprise tour of the Z.I.A. with its eccentric owner Dr. Cazador, they encounter poison-burping tatzelwurms, two-tailed cats called Bakenekos, Sasquatch-like orang mawas, and a Maltese blue tiger named Chung-Mae. But when the zoo s cryptids start disappearing and Jake and Miranda stumble upon the even deadlier, even more top-secret Underzoo they soon find themselves on the run from the most frightening, undiscovered animals in the world and a gang of bad guys. Can they save the Z.I.A.? Can they save themselves? This book is the perfect fit for reluctant readers and boys (or girls) who crave adventure, suspense, and cliff hangers at the end of every chapter.
