Zapoteca And Spanish Tales Of Mitla, Oaxaca is a book written by Elsie Clews Parsons, an American anthropologist and folklorist. The book is a collection of traditional tales and legends from the town of Mitla in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. The stories in the book are divided into two sections: Zapoteca tales and Spanish tales. The Zapoteca tales are stories that have been passed down through generations of the indigenous Zapoteca people of Oaxaca. These tales include myths about the creation of the world, legends about powerful deities, and tales of love and betrayal. The Spanish tales, on the other hand, are stories that were introduced to Mitla by Spanish colonizers. These tales include stories of chivalry and romance, as well as tales of ghosts and supernatural beings. Throughout the book, Parsons provides her own commentary and analysis of the stories, drawing on her knowledge of anthropology and folklore. She also provides background information on the cultural and historical context of the tales, helping readers to better understand the significance and meaning behind each story. Overall, Zapoteca And Spanish Tales Of Mitla, Oaxaca is a fascinating collection of traditional tales that offers a unique insight into the rich cultural heritage of Oaxaca, Mexico. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
