It is late Christmas Eve in Charleston, SC, 1983. Two teenagers are making a U-turn on a lonely two-lane stretch of highway that leads to Folly Beach when they are blind-sided by a drunk driver. The teenage driver is critically injured, and the the passenger is presumed dead. A 16-year-old is buried, and a family torn apart. A straight-laced paramedic and mischievous EMT are the first on the scene - only they know what really happened that night. How long can a secret crime be kept secret? - how long before the truth comes to light? See how the lives of a runaway teen, a solitary retiree, and a medic who doesn't play by the rules intersect over the span of six years, culminating in the midst of the most devastating storm to hit the South Carolina coast in over one hundred years, Hurricane Hugo.
