Set in the middle ages, The Young Scribe Who Dawdled, tells the story of Thomas, apprentice scribe. When tasked by Bro. Librarius, the monk who oversees the scriptorium, to produce a scroll for Gooseberry Hollow's upcoming Harvest Festival, Thomas procrastinates, fearing his effort will not be good enough. He waits until the last minute, but is helped by three friends: Alma Alpaca, who lives in the barn and cards wool, Master Hootwell, the owl who lives in the ink cupboard of the scriptorium and Sir Slowton, the sloth who lives in the rafters. The wisdom and encouragement of his friends helps Thomas finish the task at the last hour. Although Thomas is happy to have finished, he wishes he had started sooner so that he could have taken the time to make his work better, and vows to start immediately when again tasked.
