Yeast: A Problem is a novel written by Charles Kingsley, first published in 1851. The story follows the lives of two cousins, Lancelot Smith and Arthur Farringdon, who are both in love with the same woman, Clara. However, their love triangle is complicated by the presence of a mysterious and charismatic stranger named Alton Locke, who has a dark secret that threatens to destroy them all.The novel explores themes of social and political unrest in Victorian England, including the Chartist movement and the struggle for workers' rights. It also delves into the role of religion and morality in society, as well as the power of love and the consequences of jealousy and betrayal.Kingsley's writing style is characterized by its vivid descriptions of nature and its use of dialect and slang to capture the speech patterns of the working-class characters. Yeast: A Problem is considered a significant work of Victorian literature and a precursor to Kingsley's later, more famous novel, Westward Ho!And here I beg my readers to recollect that I am in no way answerable for the speculations, either of Lancelot or any of his acquaintances; and that these papers have been, from beginning to end, as in name, so in nature, Yeast--an honest sample of the questions, which, good or bad, are fermenting in the minds of the young of this day, and are rapidly leavening the minds of the rising generation. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
