This collection is titled 'Wordplay because of the nature and style of the poems themselves. Though some follow a more traditional rhyme scheme, each poem contains internal rhymes and rhythm that is unique to this collection.
Wordplay is divided into three thematic ideas. The first is childhood and growing out of it. The poems in this section all feature themes of insecurity, need for perfection, and the transitions that come with growing up.
These themes are further explored in the poem Transitions, which helps to move into the second section which examines the idea of a first love. The poems in the second section lay out the timeline of a first love and losing it.
The poem Space Bar then moves onto a more reflective version of looking at love in the bigger picture of life. This then continues into the third part of the collection that is mainly centered around finding identity and expressing individuality through writing. The last few poems explore how identity is more fully developed through the means of writing.
Finally, Fireworks recalls past questions of identity and brings the collection to a close by explaining how past trials have led to present clarity.
