With its bare trees, hushed blankets of white, and icy slate-coloured skies, the winter season encapsulates feelings of isolation, reflection, and melancholy longing. Christmas and New Year's Eve come and go, leaving an empty sort of hole and ever-present snow. Many find themselves longing, wishing, reminiscing - curled up inside their blankets and by fires just hoping to get through to the other side of Spring. This wistfulness we may feel watching the winter storm from our window is valid, but perhaps we are not alone, and genuine connection can help us heal. Divided into two sections, retreating inward and reaching out, this collection of poetry invites readers to honour the emotional turbulence within before stepping out from their place of hibernation to brave the cold and release their pain. May this poetry help you to realize that your struggles are not as isolated as you thought and that you are connected to something greater than yourself.
