Every child has felt the sting of watching their best friend laugh with someone else. This is Dillon's story - and maybe yours too.
In the sunny town of Maplewood, on a street called Clover Lane, Dillon the curious little bunny and Pip the hedgehog do everything together. Every single day after school they race to the park, play until the streetlights come on, and walk home side by side. They are best friends - the kind that feel permanent.
Until the Tuesday that Pip bounces into school beside someone new.
Her name is Hazel. She is a squirrel with a striped tail, a green acorn hair clip, and a laugh that seems to fill every room she walks into. And just like that, Pip is sitting at a different lunch table, walking home a different way, and Dillon is alone under the oak tree wondering what he did wrong.
Where did my friend go?
It is Dillon's Mom who sits beside him that evening, pulls him close, and asks the question that changes everything. And what she tells him - gently, warmly, and in words a child can truly hold onto - reframes the whole story. A friend making new friends does not mean leaving you behind. It means they have found someone new to share the you they already love.
Told entirely in warm bouncy rhyme and filled with vivid bold illustrations inspired by the Blue's Clues art style, Where Did My Friend Go? tackles one of the most universally felt but least discussed experiences of early childhood - the jealousy of a shifting friendship - and transforms it into a story of expansion, inclusion, and the discovery that there is always room for one more friend on Clover Lane.
Inside this book your child will:
- Follow lovable Dillon, Pip, Sunny, little brother Leo, and brand new friend Hazel the squirrel through the colorful streets of Maplewood
- Discover that a best friend making new friends is not a loss - it is an invitation
- Learn the difference between friendship exclusivity and friendship expansion in a gentle story-driven way
- Meet a Mom who models the kind of patient wisdom that reframes jealousy into understanding
- Complete the My Friendship Map activity at the end - a hands-on exercise that helps children celebrate existing friendships and make room for new ones
This book is perfect for:
- Parents navigating friendship jealousy and social anxiety with young children
- Preschool and kindergarten classrooms exploring inclusion, belonging, and social skills
- Social-emotional learning curriculums focused on empathy, friendship, and group dynamics
- Bedtime read-alouds that open real conversations about changing friendships and new classmates
- Gifts for birthdays, back to school, new siblings, and class transitions
- Any child who has ever felt left out, replaced, or unsure where they fit
Where Did My Friend Go? is the third book in The Adventures of Dillon the Rabbit and the Maplewood Friends Series - following Book 1, Where Is My Happiness? and Book 2, Where Did My Money Go? Each book stands completely alone, but together they build a warm consistent world that children return to again and again.
Part of The Adventures of Dillon the Rabbit and the Maplewood Friends Series - collect all the books and follow Dillon, Pip, Sunny, Leo, and now Hazel through every adventure on Clover Lane.
