Chapter 1, Hook 'Em Early, introduces the reader to how science works and how my classroom sets the stage for future learning. The next twenty-five chapters explore how schools work and the events that transpire in the classroom. My initial thoughts of writing a book began in the spring of 2008, and the first paragraph was written in July 2021. I was always somewhat amused when students would ask me if I was once an art teacher. My reply to my students was I once taught physical education. I'm a visual learner who wanted to use my entire educational background to connect with students. I'm most proud of the fact that I have taught a wide diversity of students. When the Bell Rings is a book that is educational, entertaining, enlightening, explosive, and embarrassing.
