Secrets make the relationship apart if the person knows about it or make it closer if it is a good one. I never kept any secrets from my beloved ones, I always disclosed them.
I dislike people who keep hiding it from me, doesn't mean I hate them. I will understand it if they are honest with me, even if the words are harsh to handle for me. Keeping apart the event, I should never reveal anything about it to anybody. Now I know why people carry on secrets, it makes you keep other people safe, especially loved ones. If I was in his shoes, I would have taken time to bare it or not at all.
