He is also the first person she has met who does not visibly accelerate when she gives him her full attention. She notices this before she notices anything else.
The survey gives Hartwell a clear legal win and creates a practical problem: the Aldertons have used the disputed lane as the primary access to their farm for forty years. Strict enforcement would damage a family that has maintained the land carefully and in good faith. Rosalind sees the problem before anyone else does.
What she decides to do with it-and how Daniel, who knew the consequences of his finding and said nothing, answers for that choice-becomes the first real conversation they have ever had.
The argument happens on a boundary walk, in the rain, a mile and a half from the house. They are both slightly right and substantially wrong. Neither of them retrieves it.

This is the third book in the Hartwell Hearts series. Each book can be read as a standalone, though readers of The Reluctant Governess and The Hartwell House Promise will find Rosalind's story especially rewarding. She has been watching since page one. It is her turn.
