A delightful tale of a deep and lasting love that prevents our heroine from committing to a relationship. The story is set between the two word wars. Sarah Ann returns to her home town and to the farm that supports not just her grand-parents but her mother and two brothers. Times are hard for all the valley folk but Sarah Ann struggles on not just fighting to make ends meet but the turmoil in her heart. She marries and a son is born but her happiness is short lived as the child dies in infancy and within a short period of time her husband kills himself. The outbreak of WW2 brings a new life for our heroine. She becomes a companion and a close friendship is formed between the two women who escape the dangers of the city for a life on a Pembrokeshire small-holding. Betty falls in love and Sarah meets up with her first love but is devastated to find he still doesn't recognize her. I will leave the story there but will say it has a happy ending.
