Waldo is a combination of fact, fiction with a touch of fantasy. While telling the story of a young misfit whale, it also gives the reader/listener a sense of satisfaction when Waldo finds his niche in the world. He comes home from the sea. The story follows Waldo from his polar birthplace through various bodies of water to a tropical river. There he finds happiness and his destiny. He takes the place of a battered ferry boat and transports children and adults up and down the river. A sense of belonging and love fill Waldo. The book is factual in its description of the habits of some whales. It also references CETUS, the whale constellation in the sky. There is a glossary of terms. Questions of vocabulary can be quickly referenced by the reader. Waldo will appeal to young children when it is read to them. It will appeal to children 7-11 as they read the lilting verse in rhyme format.
