This is Volume 7 of a 9-volume set of The Works of Ben Jonson, as edited by William Gifford. This volume includes masques presented at court. Ben Jonson (1572-1637) was an English playwright, poet and literary critic of the seventeenth century. He is best known for his satirical plays, particularly Volpone, The Alchemist, and Bartholomew Fair, which are considered to be among the best Jacobean plays. Jonson was also known for his poetry and his theory of drama, which emphasized realism and classical forms.
