The first modern crossword puzzle is widely attributed to a journalist named Arthur Wynne, who created the first puzzle for the New York World newspaper in 1913. Today, crossword puzzles can be found in newspapers, magazines, and online, and remain a popular pastime for millions of people around the world. They continue to evolve, with new types of puzzles and clue structures being developed, but the basic concept of a grid of words with clues remains the same.
