The book Women of Colonial and Revolutionary Times: Eliza Pinckney; Journal and Letters of Eliza Lucas by Harriott H. Ravenel is a biographical account of the life of Eliza Lucas, a prominent figure in colonial and revolutionary America. The book is a collection of Eliza's personal journal entries and letters, which offer a glimpse into her life and the challenges she faced as a woman in a male-dominated society.Eliza Pinckney was born in the West Indies in 1722 and was raised in South Carolina. She was a well-educated and independent woman who became known for her successful cultivation of indigo, a valuable cash crop at the time. Eliza's agricultural innovations and business acumen helped to establish South Carolina as a major producer of indigo, and she became a respected member of the colonial elite.Throughout her life, Eliza faced numerous challenges, including the early death of her father, the demands of managing a large plantation, and the upheaval of the American Revolution. Despite these obstacles, she remained committed to her family and her community, and her writings provide a unique perspective on the social and political issues of the time.Overall, Women of Colonial and Revolutionary Times: Eliza Pinckney; Journal and Letters of Eliza Lucas is a fascinating look at the life of a remarkable woman who played a significant role in shaping the history of colonial America. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
