For barangay secretary Renea Medina, the case begins as a simple records problem. But when the new Bayan-Alaga pilot system flags duplicate identities, missing complaint histories, forgotten drainage reports, incomplete disaster lists, and unresolved public service requests, San Roque begins to see what it has been ignoring for years.
The barangay laughs at the new system and calls it Robot Marites. But behind the jokes are harder questions. Who benefits when records remain messy? Who gets forgotten when complaints are only remembered verbally? Who is protected when public service depends on favors instead of accountable systems? And what happens when an ordinary barangay secretary begins to make invisible problems visible?
As Renea, Aling Marites, Barangay Captain Nicolas Reyes, Richard Lim, Councilor Chona Doringo, Mang Samson, Jesusa Patasin, Mayor Roger San Joaquin, and others confront the cost of transparency, San Roque discovers that technology is not the hero. It is only a lantern. The real test is whether people are brave enough to carry it.
The Woman With Three Names is a dialogue-driven Philippine civic fiction novel about artificial intelligence, local governance, public trust, corruption, privacy, disinformation, disaster readiness, and the dignity of citizens who have waited too long to be seen. It begins with one corrected record, but it opens the door to a larger national awakening. The author's note makes clear that the novel treats AI not as a replacement for public accountability, but as a civic tool that must remain governed by law, conscience, human judgment, and democratic responsibility.
