The Wisdom of Fools is a novel written by Margaret Deland. The story revolves around the life of a young woman named Lydia Orr, who is forced to confront the harsh realities of life after her father's sudden death. Lydia's father was a respected judge, and his death leaves her with no means of financial support. She is forced to move in with her aunt, who lives in a small town in New England. As Lydia tries to adjust to her new life, she discovers that the people in the town are not what they seem. She meets a group of eccentric characters, including a young man named Tom Brainerd, who is known for his foolish antics. Despite his reputation, Tom is kind and intelligent, and Lydia finds herself drawn to him.As Lydia and Tom's relationship develops, Lydia begins to question the values of the society she has grown up in. She realizes that the people she once admired are not as wise as she thought, and that the so-called fools in the town may have more wisdom than anyone else. The Wisdom of Fools is a thought-provoking novel that explores themes of love, loss, and the search for meaning in life. Through Lydia's journey, the reader is encouraged to question their own beliefs and to consider the value of unconventional wisdom.1897. Novelist whose career began in the greeting card business. The book begins: The most delightful thing about our engagement is that everybody is so pleased with it. Amy Townsend said this, smiling down at her lover, who, full length on the grass beside her, leaned on his elbow, watching her soft hair blowing across her forehead, and the color of the sun flickering through the shadows, hot on her cheek; for she had closed her fluffy white parasol and taken off her hat here under an oak-tree on the grassy bank of the river.
